Through the Mission
Rwanda partnership we are helping turn
the tides against HIV/AIDS. By the time
you finish reading this page, another
two children will be added to the
staggering number of boys and girls
around the world who have lost one or
both parents to HIV/AIDS – that number
is now over 14 million.
Many other children have been made
extremely vulnerable because their
families are stretching their meager
resources to help care for the orphans
around them. Often, it is aging
grandparents or other extended family
members who are left to care for these
orphaned and vulnerable children. Many
times, entire families of children are
found trying to make it all on their
own. They struggle to grow their own
food, and give up school to work
backbreaking jobs for pennies.
42 million people worldwide are
currently infected with HIV; another
14,000 become infected every day.
22million people have died of AIDS since
the epidemic started; one in four of
them were children. 14 million children
have been orphaned due to the HIV/AIDS
crisis; by 2010 this is expected to
exceed 25 million.
Your Child Sponsorship dollars are
providing valuable assistance to those
whose lives have been devastated by this
terrible disease. Education, medical
assistance, emotional and spiritual
support are being offered to those in
need. Together, we are making a
difference.
